Album Covers

I have chosen these album covers because the are represent the same genre of music which happens to be a grime genre. Each of these albums have a unique feature but they still keep a R&B feeling to it.

Tinie Tempah's album cover shows a futuristic or a space theme to it, by involving a shone of light upon Tinie as if the shone of light was a spaceship. The cover involves stars and him holding a city as if he was important to his fan base and also to show a powerful side to the artist. The light shining upon him shows that he is the centre of attention in this picture. Grime artists like to play upon words by going beyond the English grammar and embracing their brand image; in this cover we see that the album name is spelt DISC-OVERY instead of discovery because the artist wants their unique style be different from other artists. The artist wears his sunglasses and his leather jacket which is a typical feature and shows an R&B side to the album cover. The colour scheme is dark colours such as black, dark purples, to represent his brand image as a slick and cool artist. The picture is shot as a medium shot because most album covers involve close ups to show the emotion on the artist's face and how they present themselves to their audience. The font is bold and catches your eye straight away, because it is displayed in white and shows up well on the dark background.

In this album cover, we see that Professor Green shows a slick cool side to his covers. The colours are dark but displays a green and white font which shows up well on the dark background. This sort of genre of music involves dark colours to highlight their style of music, since the music genre is Grime we would expect the colour scheme not to be bright and cheerful colours unlike a pop genre. He wears a leather jacket to display a street side to him like Tinie Tempah. He displays his tattoo on his side of his neck to show a 'bad boy' side to him, like most male R&B artists do with their own tattoos, this is so they can  make a brand image of themselves. The picture is shot at a low angle because it makes the artist look important and literally someone to look up to. I've noticed that most Grime artist do not give straight on eye contact in their album covers or they wear sunglasses instead, this could be due to how they want to present themselves to their audience, as a cool and laid back person.

Dizzee Rascal's album cover is different compared to other Grime artists, because for first the colour scheme is bright and cheerful which deflects a fun side to this artist and he does not take himself seriously. In my personal opinion I would of not shot my artist in a long shot because the audience can not see the artist up close and it feels distant between the artist and audience. However the font is big and bright coloured which shows up well on the light background although the font seems to take away the attention away from the artist. This could be a bad thing because you want to sell your brand image to your fan base. Unlike other Grime artists we see that Dizzee Rascal wears bright coloured clothes, this shows the unique style of Grime artists today as they are start to involving more colour into their wardrobe, for example, Tinie Tempah wears bright block coloured suits on his awards night because Grime artists want to stand out from R&B artists and therefore making their trade mark.

Example is the artist that we are trying to mould our artist into because his style is retro and fashionable compared to most Grime artists and this style works for him due to his ethnicity, whereas most Grime artists are a coloured ethnicity. Example is different from most Grime artists because it looks like he spends time for his album covers to be different and stand out more compared to others. The first album cover is his most recent and he uses editing tools to give out this effect however the majority of the cover is black and white. He uses shadows to emphasise that there may be a dark side to him or there could be two sides to this person. The album cover is edgy and it will catch the audience eye in shops. Example uses the same font which is bold and recognisable for his fan base like Tinie Tempah's fonts. Example uses a box in all of his album covers around his font to make it stand out from the photo of the artist so the name of the artist is separate from the picture. In the other two album covers it looks like he's a laid back and fun person because his photos are not serious like the first, he uses different facial expressions by looking enthusiastic and playing with his props to emphasise his brand image. He wears colourful clothing and dresses alternatively compared to most Grime artists. His image goes well for him because he's not trying to portray a black ethnicity image; like N- Dubz's Dappy. Overall Example are our brand image we are trying to portray in our own artist.
